A Chicago Public School employee has been charged with stalking Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot after showing up at her Logan Square home in an "aggressive and hostile manner" in the final days of her administration, a FOX 32 report said this week.
Garrett McLinn, 36, is accused of going to Lightfoot's house and causing disturbances on at least four or five separate occasions over a two-day period and refusing to leave when repeatedly asked to do so by authorities, the report said.
William Howard Taft High School released a statement about McLinn's arrest.
"We are reaching out to inform you that we recently learned that one of our staff members had been arrested due to a matter that does not involve our school or any members of our school community," the statement said, quoted by FOX 32. "This individual has not been currently permitted to work at our school or enter any of our school buildings since earlier this school year, prior to this arrest."
The school said it could not release further details because of privacy reasons.
"Please know that we are taking this situation extremely seriously," the statement continued. "We will continue to follow our diligent safety protocols to ensure the safety of all members of our community."
McLinn faces two counts of stalking, five counts of resisting a peace officer and one count of disorderly conduct and is scheduled to appear in court later this month for a status hearing.
Lightfoot lost her bid for reelection, ending her historic run as the city’s first Black woman and first openly gay person to serve in the position, an NBC News report said. She also became the first Chicago mayor to lose a reelection bid in four decades. She finished fourth in the first round of voting on Feb. 28. The top two voter-getters in that contest, Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas and Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson, advanced to an April 4 runoff election that Johnson ultimately won.
