Lopez on planed wilding event: ‘If I know, do you @chicagosmayor’

Chicago Ald. Ray Lopez is warning the City of Chicago about the next “wilding” event being planned after last weekend’s events in which hundreds of teenagers flooded into parts of Chicago.

“If I know, do you @chicagosmayor," Lopez said on Twitter.

Lopez linked to a flyer reading “Y’all ass gone get enough” with the date April 22 at Millennium Park. “Bring your friends,” the flyer reads.

The flyer comes after two days of mob violence in which hundreds of teenagers swarmed 31st Street Beach and then the areas surrounding Millennium Park last Friday and Saturday. The teens torched cars, smashed windows, and randomly attacked strangers. On Friday one teen was shot by those in the crowd that gathered at 31st Street Beach. On Saturday two more teens were shot as another group gathered at Millennium Park. The mob actions began after calls for similar “meet-ups.”

“Last night CPD monitored activity happening across the city and officers were in place to quickly respond to active incidents and large gatherings,” an officer said in a statement, according to New York Post. “We will continue to have sufficient resources in place as we work to strengthen safety in every neighborhood.”

Lopez suggested Chicago Police " need to focus specialized social media units to go after organizers now." In a tweet, he added that "wilding is only the latest in social-media-fueled events orchestrated by adults targeting our youth."

State Sen. Robert J. Peters (D-Chicago) excused away last week’s behavior.

“I would look at the behavior of young people as a political act and statement. It’s a mass protest against poverty and segregation,” Peters said in a tweet.

In one video a group of black teens slowly approached a white woman cowering in a doorway and attacks her.

“White woman viciously attacked by a group of black teens. You absolutely never see videos like this with the races reversed. Never. Doesn’t exist. At some point, we need to discuss why this kind of violence literally always goes one way,” a tweet by Matt Walsh reads linking to the video.

Video from the event shows a swarm of teens descending on the Loop.
