City of Prospect Heights Police/Fire Commission met April 26

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

CALL TO ORDER – At 4:01 PM, Chairman Hoffman called to order the Regular Fire Police Commission Meeting at City Hall, 8 N Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. 

ROLL CALL - Deputy Clerk Schultheis called roll. A quorum was present. 

COMMISSIONERS PRESENT - Chairman Hoffman, Commissioner Riebman 

ABSENT - Commissioner Fiorito (with previous notification) 

OTHER OFFICIALS PRESENT - Police Chief Caponigro, Deputy Clerk Schultheis 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - 

A. Approval of the Regular March 29, 2023 Meeting Minutes 

B. Approval of the Regular March 29, 2023 Executive Session Meeting Minutes - Commissioner Riebman moved for omnibus Approval of the Regular March 29, 2023 Meeting Minutes and Regular March 29, 2023 Executive Session Meeting; seconded by Chairman Hoffman.

ROLL CALL VOTE -  AYES - Hoffman, Riebman

NAYS - None

ABSENT - Fiorito 

Motion carried 2-0, one absent. 

CLOSED SESSION - Personnel Matters - None 

NEW BUSINESS - Chief Caponigro noted that the new Social Worker, Rosangela Maldonado has gotten $10,000 for Helping Hands fund usage. This allows domestic violence victims to be provided hotel rooms to escape threats. 

- She will also start looking into Chairman Hoffman's request to look into receiving funding to prevent gambling issues. 

OLD BUSINESS - None 

DEPARTMENTAL UPDATES/CORRESPONDENCE - Police Chief Caponigro said that the Police Staff is at full strength. 

- He stated that the application to take the Police Test only has seven applicants registered. 

There are still three more weeks left to register. Information has been sent to local colleges and the Police Department has put together a new promo about the Prospect Heights Police Department. 

- They are hoping that School District 23 and the PHPD will get grants for an SRO (School Resource Officer). 

- Rocco is still in dog training. 

- The Prospect Heights Police Department is maintaining a strong presence on the east side. He acknowledged that gang activity usually picks up as the weather gets warmer. 

- The City Council has approved the combing the duties of the Administrative Coordinator and the Records Supervisor. Administrative Coordinator Galto has left the Police Department; and Rachelle Gentry will now serve the dual role. 

PUBLIC COMMENT - None 

The Next Regular Meeting of the Fire Police Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 4 PM, City Hall, 8 North Elmhurst Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070. 

ADJOURNMENT- At 4:12 PM, Commissioner Riebman moved to Adjourn; seconded by Chairman Hoffman. 

VOICE VOTE: All Ayes, No Nays 

Motion carried 2 – 0, Commissioner Fiorito absent.
