State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Shelbyville) stands opposed to President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Chicago.

"Joe Biden owes every Illinois resident an apology for the tremendous harm his policies have done to the economy,” Halbrook said, according to The Center Square. “Thanks to Joe Biden, even the dollar stores have raised their prices.” “Come July 1st, the Illinois sales tax on groceries will be reinstated, and the hard-working people in my district will again be reminded of how Biden's economy only works for the elite and the politically connected.”

Biden visited Chicago to discuss his economic plan, emphasizing his "Bidenomics" approach focused on smart investments, empowering workers, and promoting competition. He touted the success of his economic endeavors, citing high economic growth rates since taking office. Republicans criticized his speech, arguing that it should have been an apology given the challenges faced by Illinoisans, including high inflation, unemployment, and economic costs.

A report by Wirepoints highlighted the state's economic struggles, with fewer jobs and low GDP growth coampared to national averages. According to Wirepoints, Democrat budgets and leadership have failed to improve the lives of Illinois residents. Despite the governor's claims of a balanced budget and transformative investments, the state's employment rate has declined, economic growth is stagnant, tax burdens are high, and there is a significant out-migration of residents. Illinois lags behind other states like Texas and Florida in job creation and has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. The state's economy has not seen significant growth, and high property and gas taxes contribute to a burdensome tax environment. The population decline further highlights the challenges faced by Illinoisans.

Halbrook is a member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus which is also comprised of GOP State Reps. Jed Davis, Blaine Wilhour, Adam Niemerg, Dan Caulkins, Chris Miller, and David Friess. It is part of the broader State Freedom Caucus Network.

“We need patriots who will serve in our state capitals to fight federal overreach and stand firm against those — in both parties — who prioritize seizing political power over representing constituents,” the group’s website reads.
