The Chicago Republican Party is calling out a Springfield YMCA for asserting a teen swimmer engaged in “hate speech” for protesting the presence of a biological male trans swimmer allowed to use the girl’s facilities.
The girl was allegedly disallowed from using the YMCA’s pool for practice and was forced to leave the swim team.
“Yet another ‘trans’-cultic offense against children, women, decency, reason, and basic human rights has taken place. Such offenses will continue unless and until right-thinking Americans oppose them with courage and tenacity—oh, and lawsuits,” Chicago GOP said on Facebook. “The Springfield YMCA Typhoons Swim Team (SPY) in Springfield, Illinois now allows biological men who pretend to be women to enter the girls’ locker room—including when minor girls are present and undressing. The coaches and YMCA administrators began this practice without telling any girls or their parents.”
A press conference is being held on the issue on July 13 that will be attended by former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines. The issue at hand revolves around a recent incident where a high school girl was allegedly required to share the swim locker room with men at the YMCA. Concerns have been raised about the potential infringement upon the rights of female athletes, as well as the potential for privacy violations and discomfort for the girls involved.
“At the beginning of the normal swim team practice, coach Totura and Kenzie Primus, Branch Director of the Kerasotes Branch (westside) pulled all the girls aside for a meeting to discuss the hanging of the signs,” Breakthrough Ideas reported the girl’s father saying. “They indicated that this was not acceptable, and it was 'hate speech.' My daughter approached coach Totura immediately after the meeting and indicated that she was involved in the hanging of the signs. She said that she did this because her previous attempts to correct this were dismissed by the YMCA staff and her coach. Coach Totura said that this was hate speech; she was not allowed to participate with the swim team; and was asked to leave the pool area."
Gaines said she would be present for the press conference and noted the case in a tweet.
“16-yo girl banned from YMCA and kicked off her swim team for opposing a naked male in their locker room,” Gaines said. “And to make matters worse, her older sister had to go through the exact same thing with Lia Thomas. But it's ‘not really happening’…."
