On August 15, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05), a member of the first Donald Trump impeachment panel released the following statement in response to news that the former President has been indicted by a Fulton County grand jury on charges that he criminally interfered in Georgia's 2020 election:

“This is the fourth time a United States President has been criminally indicted — all of which have been broughtagainstthesameman,DonaldJ.Trump.The 98-page, 41-count Fulton County, Georgia indictment details the criminality behind the actions taken to attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

“While joined by many others in this indictment, it is clear that the former president is a one-man crime ring. He gathered his loyal cronies to pursue drastic and illegal means to maintain his residency in the White House and he is now bringing them down with him. This was not some high-minded, intellectual scheme — this was as brass knuckles as it gets. Intimidation, forgery, impersonation — the utter disregard for the rule of law and the election process is striking.

“Following my review of the indictment’s details, it is my belief that these charges have been applied fairly and accurately. As District Attorney Willis said, ‘We look at the facts, we look at the law, and we bring charges.’

“This indictment comes on the heels of three separate indictments charging Trump with hush money payments, mishandling classified documents, and election interference, all of which contribute to the narrative of Trump’s obsession with power and his willingness to do whatever it takes to sustain it. In that same vein — as I have said three times before — everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Trump will have his day in court, as will the prosecution.”
