Democratic Party insider Harris is Preckwinkle’s pick to replace SA Foxx

Cook County Democratic Party Chairwoman Toni Preckwinkle's pick to run as outgoing State's Attorney Kim Foxx successor, Clayton Harris III starts his campaign with $27,500 in his campaign fund.

Harris is a Democratic Party insider who worked as a prosecutor under former Cook County State’s Attorney Dick Devine, was an assistant in Mayor Richard M. Daley's intergovernmental affairs operation, worked stints as a lawyer for the Chicago and state transportation departments and was former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's last chief of staff before the governor was sent to prison on federal corruption charges. Earlier this week, Harris won the endorsement of the Cook County Democratic Party over former Illinois Appellate Court Justice Eileen O’Neill Burke.

In July, Preckwinkle donated $10,000 to Harris's campaign fund. Other early donors include:

• North Carolina physician, Dr. Christian Clark, $1,500.

• Ceasefire coordinator Ricardo Williams, $1,000.

• Beaufort County (S.C.) Black Chamber of Commerce executive director Marilyn Harris, $1,000.

• Virginia consultant Anthony Jackson, $1,000.

• Chicago lawyer Darrin Lim, $1,000.

• Washington D.C. based consultant Steve Fisher, $1,000.

• Chicago personal injury lawyer Anne Couyoumjian, $1,000.

• Lyft policy manager Brett Kent, $1,000.

• Dentist Dr. Hector Cummings, $1,000.

• Lawyer Tonya Primus, $1,000.

• Lobbyist and Harris campaign fund treasurer Gyata Kimmons, $1,000.

• Professional engineer, Terry Ruhl, $1,000.
