The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that ramp closures are scheduled to take place on the inbound Kennedy Expressway as part of an ongoing rehabilitation project. These closures, which are necessary for bridge rehabilitation and ramp repairs, are expected to begin on Monday, October 16, weather permitting.

The following ramps will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on Monday:

- Milwaukee Avenue to inbound Kennedy, anticipated to reopen in two weeks.

- Inbound Kennedy to Ogden Avenue, anticipated to reopen in two weeks.

There are also several ongoing ramp closures, including:

- Inbound Kennedy to North Avenue (Illinois 64), anticipated to reopen late October.

- Inbound Kennedy to Fullerton Avenue, anticipated to reopen late October.

- Armitage Avenue to inbound Kennedy, anticipated to reopen late October.

- Montrose Avenue to inbound Kennedy, anticipated to reopen late October.

- Kedzie Avenue to inbound Kennedy, anticipated to reopen late October.

Motorists are advised to follow the posted detours during these closures. The Department of Transportation will provide details, schedules, and impacts to traffic in advance of future closures.

The overall rehabilitation project for the inbound Kennedy Expressway is expected to be completed in late fall, with all lanes and ramps reopening and the express lanes resuming normal operations. The project will then shift its focus to the outbound Kennedy in 2025.

Drivers should be prepared for lane shifts, overnight lane closures, and significant delays in the area. It is recommended to allow extra time for trips and to consider using public transportation or traveling during non-peak hours if possible. Motorists are also reminded to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in work zones, obey speed limits, and be aware of workers and equipment.

For more information on the project, including details, maps, photos, and fact sheets, visit the official website at idot.illinois.gov. Questions can be emailed to DOT.KennedyRehab@illinois.gov.

In conclusion, the ongoing ramp closures on the inbound Kennedy Expressway are part of a larger rehabilitation project aimed at improving the infrastructure. Motorists are advised to follow posted detours and expect delays while the project is underway.
