Jon Luers, candidate for the 10th District Illinois Senate seat, has taken to social media to announce the launch of his campaign website, inviting voters to explore his detailed positions on various issues at www.luersforillinois.com. The veteran software engineer, with 40 years of experience, aims to bring his unique perspective to the political arena, emphasizing fiscal responsibility, education reform and environmental policies.
Expressing his willingness to engage in dialogue about his political positions, Luers encouraged feedback from the public.
"Please check out my new website, www.luersforillinois.com. It includes some longer descriptions of my positions on various issues. Let me know what you think!" he said on Facebook.
Luers, an alumnus of Northwestern University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Illinois and across the nation. He noted on his campaign website that seeing 'Illinois and the USA dragged so quickly into a morass of debt and lunacy by self-serving Democrats,' has been discouraging. Luers also took aim at his opponent, State Sen. Robert Martwick (D-Chicago), labeling him a "Madigan clone," and highlighting Martwick’s alleged tendency to endorse tax hikes.
One of Luers’ primary concerns listed on his website is the state of public schools in Illinois. He describes them as "ridiculously expensive and ineffective." He attributes these challenges to the influence of teachers’ unions and underscores the negative impact of Covid lockdowns on educational progress. Advocating for a reevaluation of the education system, Luers emphasizes the need for reform and a departure from what he perceives as an ineffective status quo.
Luers also articulated on his newly launched website, his stance on environmental and social issues. He questions what he sees as sweeping and costly lifestyle changes proposed to address climate concerns. Criticizing the lack of a coordinated plan, he questions the objectives behind such measures. Advocating for a more measured approach, Luers emphasizes reliance on the historical resilience of natural systems and questions the proportionate impact of human activities on global conditions. On social issues, Luers states that taxpayer dollars should not be used for abortions, aligning with a conservative perspective on pro-life policies.
The 10th District covers Chicago’s northwest side and the North Cook County communities of Norridge, Schiller Park, Rosemont, Park Ridge and Niles. It is currently represented by State Sen. Robert Martwick (D-Chicago). He is an attorney and former criminal prosecutor, according to his website.
