Tommy Hanson, the candidate for the 5th Congressional District, recently expressed his concerns about the current state of Chicago,  criticizing Mayor Brandon Johnson’s policies and suggesting that the city is no longer the vibrant place it once was. Hanson also hinted at a potential change in Chicago's leadership.

“You know, the fact of the matter is, I think this mayor’s days are numbered,” Hanson said. “And the fact that Rahm Emanuel was here the other day, and you said he’s not ruling out running for mayor again, it kind of tells me that this mayor is going to resign or something’s going to happen where Chicago is going to have to put in a deputy mayor, and then they’re going to have to start organizing for another election.”

“So, we may be preparing for a new mayoral election, later in the fall, when they would petition for a new mayor next year. Right. When Rahm Emanuel comes back.”

In reference to the city's current state, Hanson declared: "The city is not Chicago anymore, and it’s time to change."

He reiterated this sentiment in a Facebook post stating 'Chicago is not Chicago anymore.' As a potential congressman, he pledged to address these issues through discussions with possible new city and state leaders.

Hanson emphasized his ability to bring about positive changes for Illinois residents.

"I’m about making sure that things are done right and things are not being done right in Chicago," he said

He described Chicago as evolving into "like a real wacky, flaky city." To support his campaign efforts and learn more about him, Hanson encouraged people to vote for him in November 2024 and visit his website www.votetommyhanson.com.

According to information available on his website, Hanson was born in Chicago and raised on its North Shore. He has served as the President of Hanson Commercial Real Estate for 34 years. His campaign emphasizes his small business ownership, family-man status, belief in fiscal responsibility, full funding of law enforcement, and common-sense growth.

The 5th Congressional District of Illinois is currently represented by U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.).  He has held office since 2009 and is seeking reelection to represent the district.
