Adelvis Rodriguez-Carmona, a Venezuelan citizen and known member of the Tren de Aragua transnational criminal organization, was arrested by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). Rodriguez-Carmona is a suspect in a drive-by shooting in Chicago’s Little Italy.
U.S. Border Patrol agents encountered Rodriguez-Carmona first on July 7, 2022 near the border at Eagle Pass, Texas. He was set to go through removal proceedings by was released on order of recognizance. An immigration judge issues a final order of removal for Rodriguez-Carmona one year later, on July 7, 2023.
Rodriguez-Carmona was arrested by Cicero, Illinois police officers on Feb. 24. A press release from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lists his offenses as aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no firearms identification card, driving without a license or insurance, and possession of adult use cannabis in a motor vehicle. He was later released.
Rodriguez-Carmona was later arrested by ERO officers on March 11 and is currently awaiting immigration removal proceedings at the Dodge County Detention Facility in Juneau, Wisconsin.
“This Venezuelan noncitizen represented a significant threat to the residents of our communities,” said Raymond Hernandez, ERO Chicago's assistant field office director. “Not only is he a validated member of a transnational street gang, but he also displayed a willingness to unlawfully discharge a firearm in public. ERO Chicago will continue to prioritize public safety by removing such threats from our streets.”
