The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced plans to commence pavement repairs on South DuSable Lake Shore Drive as part of the 2024 Arterial Resurfacing Program. The project is set to kick off on Monday, April 22, with the repair work spanning the area between Roosevelt Road and 31st Street in both the northbound and southbound directions. The anticipated duration of the project is approximately eight weeks.

According to CDOT's schedule, there will be specific lane closures in place during various phases of the repair process. Southbound lane closures are scheduled from April 22 to May 6, followed by northbound lane closures from May 6 to May 20. Subsequently, southbound lane closures will resume from May 20 to June 3, with northbound lane closures taking place from June 3 to June 17. It is important to note that these schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather and unforeseen emergencies.

In light of the upcoming construction activities, CDOT is advising motorists to plan their journeys in advance, allocate additional time for travel, consider using alternative routes, and explore the option of utilizing public transportation. Drivers are also reminded to exercise caution and adhere to the instructions provided by flaggers and construction signage when approaching or navigating through work zones. Maintaining the designated speed limits, driving attentively, and staying vigilant for workers and equipment are emphasized as crucial safety measures during the repair period.

The CDOT's message to drivers is clear: "CDOT advises drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling, to take alternate routes if possible, and encourages people to use public transportation. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering and driving near work zones, obey the posted speed limits, drive with extra caution, and be alert for workers and equipment."
