Cook County’s 3,585 coaches earned an average salary of $94,724 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the fourth highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Illinois post-secondary schools during 2022.

Cook County is home to 27 post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Northwestern University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $675,616.

Male coaches of men's teams received $124,555 on average in Cook County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $60,098.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
