According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 15985 students during the year. This equates to five percent of the 327,338 students enrolled.
Students were expelled for 3,149 incidents with violence that caused physical injury, 4,911 incidents with violence without physical injury, 1,884 incidents with alcohol and tobacco, 211 incidents with drugs, 192 incidents witha dangerous weapon firearm,281 incidents with a dangerous weapon, other than a firearm.
The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons, of which there were 2,626. There were 2,086 incidents of violence without injury. For 4,595 incidents, students were suspended for one to two days.
Boy students received 9,665 suspensions, while 6,275 girls were suspended.
There were 6,010 elementary or middle school students, and 9,975 high school students suspended in 2021-22 school year.
The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for violence without injury, of which there were 2,825. There were 2,779 incidents of violence with injury. For 3,395 incidents, students were suspended for two to three days.
