CHICAGO — The Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) has coordinated public safety planning with the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) and Chicago Police Department (CPD) for the 2024 NASCAR Chicago Street Race in Grant Park on July 6 and July 7. The City of Chicago will have citywide deployments throughout the weekend to ensure public safety and security.

Throughout the weekend, OEMC will monitor events and weather conditions citywide from the Operations Center and coordinate public safety resources with critical stakeholders. OEMC will activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race along with the Summer Operations Center. During the event, CPD and CFD will deploy additional special event resources to ensure no degradation to response and mitigation resources across all city neighborhoods.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) for unmanned aerial systems within a one nautical mile radius of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race on July 6-7, 2024. The TFR will be in place on Saturday, July 6 from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Sunday, July 7 from 2:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Unauthorized drones or unmanned aircraft systems are prohibited within this area without an approved FAA Waiver. Individuals who fail to adhere to this restriction could face detainment or fines by law enforcement or FAA personnel.

The city reminds the public to be aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity under the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign. Suspicious activities should be reported to onsite security or by calling 9-1-1.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to download the Chicago OEMC app for alerts, safety tips, weather forecasts, street closures, event information, and more. The app is available through Apple App Store and Google Play Store or via Chicago.gov/OEMC.

For public safety on the lakefront, residents should note pole markers/location identifiers attached to poles throughout Grant Park area and DuSable Lake Shore Drive from 5700 North to 6600 South. These markers help reference locations if calling 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Public transportation is recommended for attending large-scale events like this race weekend. Both CTA and Metra will provide additional services during this period. For more information about transit options visit TransitChicago.com or Metra.com.

Motorists around Grant Park during race weekend should prepare for heavy traffic and possible reroutes due to street closures on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7.

Residents can download community brochures containing maps, street closure information, FAQs, parking restrictions at NASCARChicago.com/localinfo/, email info@nascarchicago.com directly or view related videos online.

OEMC will issue alerts as needed regarding weather conditions or emergencies through NotifyChicago.org where residents can sign up for notifications.
