Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker says he wants to make his state the best in the country for blacks to sell marijuana.

"Illinois is committed to building the most equitable and economically prosperous cannabis industry," Priztker said in a post on X. "I was proud to share with

the INCBA that we now lead the nation for cannabis ownership diversity, with 59% of licenses awarded to minority or women-owned businesses."

The International Cannabis Bar Association (INCBA) started the seventh annual Cannabis Law Institute on July 25. The event, held in Chicago, is meant to be a networking and growth opportunity for the legal advancement of the cannabis industry.

This year's event featured speakers from the Cannabis Law Institute at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, as well as educational opportunities for attendees at the organization. Tickets for the two day event started at $899 for a member reserving a space.

Pritzker signed Illinois House Bill 1438 in 2019, which allowed "persons 21 years of age or older to possess, use, and purchase limited amounts of cannabis for personal use." Illinois was the first state in the country to fully legalize adult marijuana usage.
