The City of Chicago has announced the application process for individuals and organizations wishing to use a speaker’s platform during the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC). The initiative, managed by the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), aims to support the lawful exercise of First Amendment rights.
The speaker’s platform, equipped with sound amplification equipment, will be located near the United Center from August 19-22, 2024. Applications for time slots will open on Tuesday, August 6th at 9:00 a.m. CST and close on Saturday, August 10th at 5:00 p.m. CST.
To request a time slot, applicants must complete the DNC Speakers Platform Request Form and email it to DNCspeakingrequest@cityofchicago.org. Speaking slots are 45 minutes long and begin at the top of each hour starting at 11:00 a.m., with the final slot beginning at 6:00 p.m. daily.
Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. However, priority will be given to groups that have previously applied for parade or assembly permits near the United Center on specific dates in August. Each organization or individual is eligible for one time slot but may list alternate preferences.
In addition to speaking opportunities in Park 578, demonstrators will be permitted to march within sight and sound of the United Center. Details about marching routes will be provided once ongoing litigation is resolved.
