North DuSable Lake Shore Drive resurfacing prompts week-long closures starting September

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced updated traffic impacts related to the ongoing resurfacing of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive (DLSD) between LaSalle Drive and Hollywood Avenue. Temporary full closures of all lanes, where work is being performed, will begin on Sunday, September 8th. The project is expected to be completed by late October.

The schedule for the week of September 8th is as follows:

Sunday, September 8th: Starting at 3:00 p.m., all northbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed between Hollywood Avenue and Lawrence Avenue. This includes closing all entrance and exit ramps between Lawrence Avenue and Hollywood Avenue. The northbound exit ramp at Lawrence Avenue will remain open to detour traffic. All lanes will reopen by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Monday, September 9th: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., both northbound and southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Hollywood Avenue and Lawrence Avenue with all ramps remaining open. At 9:00 p.m., all northbound and southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed between Hollywood Avenue and Lawrence Avenue. This includes closing all entrance and exit ramps in this section. The northbound exit ramp and southbound entrance ramp at Lawrence Avenue will remain open for detours. All lanes will reopen by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Tuesday, September 10th: Starting at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Hollywood Avenue and Lawrence Avenue with all ramps remaining open. At 9:00 p.m., all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be closed in this section including entrance and exit ramps between Lawrence Avenue and Hollywood Avenue. The southbound entrance ramp at Lawrence Avenue will stay open for detours. All lanes are scheduled to reopen by 6:00 a.m.

Wednesday, September 11th: From 7:00 p.m., northbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane in the same section with all ramps staying open until complete closure at 9:00 p.m., affecting both entrance and exit ramps between these avenues except for the northbound exit ramp at Lawrence which remains open for detours until reopening by 6:00 a.m.

Thursday, September 12th: Similar closures apply starting from reducing southbound DLSD to one lane from 7:00 p.m., leading up to full closure at nightfall impacting both directions' access points until reopening by early Friday morning.

Friday, September 13th marks resumption of normal traffic post-overnight closures concluding early that day.

CDOT advises drivers to plan ahead allowing extra travel time while adhering strictly to construction signage directives within work zones ensuring safety compliance regarding speed limits mindful presence around active worksites.
