The Chicago Red Stars have announced the details of their upcoming 'Nuestra Ciudad' match, which will be held on Sunday, September 29, at 5 p.m. CT at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The event is presented by Wintrust.
The 'Nuestra Ciudad' (Our City) match aims to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and recognize the contributions of Latina/o/x/e people to Chicago. According to data from the UIC Great Cities Institute’s Latino Research Initiative, Latina/o/x/e individuals made up more than one-quarter of Chicago's population in 2022 and contributed nearly $100 billion in GDP to the metropolitan area.
In addition to community initiatives in predominantly Latina/o/x/e neighborhoods, the Red Stars participated in the annual 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. In October, they will host a clinic at Harrison Park for local children to learn or improve their soccer skills with coaches from Red Stars camps and clinics.
The Nuestra Ciudad match will feature various celebrations of Latina/o/x/e culture. A Matchday Clinic presented by Wintrust will take place at 2:00 p.m. CT on September 29. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m. CT, and the first 2,500 attendees will receive an exclusive Red Stars Nuestra Ciudad hat. The Fan Zone will include performances by members of the Necalli Cultural Movement Performing Company.
Fans can also expect a rendition of the national anthem by Mariachi Monumental de México and a halftime performance by the group. English and Spanish-language match announcements will be made during the game, and a ticket package offering a meet-and-greet with two Red Stars players after the match is available.
