The City of Chicago is now accepting nominations for its official 2024 Christmas Tree. Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) are seeking a tree to be displayed in Millennium Park at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street. Nominations from the Chicagoland area can be submitted via email to dcase@cityofchicago.org until Monday, October 14 at 8 pm.

Mayor Brandon Johnson stated, "Every year, our city comes together to celebrate the joy and togetherness of the holiday season. We are grateful to the local family who will donate their tree, as their gift represents the generosity and unity that defines our Chicago community. The annual tree lighting is more than a tradition—it is a beacon of hope, signaling the start of a season where we lift each other up, support our neighbors, and celebrate all that makes our city strong."

The nominated trees must meet specific criteria to be considered. The chosen tree will be illuminated on Friday, November 22 at 6 pm during the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and will remain lit through Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

DCASE Commissioner Clinée Hedspeth commented, "Even though the calendar has just turned to fall, it’s never too early to start planning for the city’s annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, the kick-off to the holiday season. Each year DCASE produces an inclusive celebration with live performances and festivities that delights thousands of people who visit Millennium Park for the holidays."

This year's holiday events include ice skating at McCormick Tribune Ice Rink from November 15 until February 2 (weather permitting), presented by Discover Financial Services. Admission is free but requires reservations. Free skating lessons will also be available thanks to funding from McDonald’s Active Lifestyles Endowment managed by Millennium Park Foundation.

Additionally, Millennium Park Holiday Market returns from November 22 through November 24 in Chase Promenade North tent featuring local artists selling various items. Interested vendors can apply online by October 10.

Millennium Park Holiday Sing-Alongs will take place on Fridays starting December 6 through December 20. Visitors can join community singers and choruses from around Chicago.

Millennium Park remains open daily from 6 am to 11 pm. For more information about park activities and hours of operation, visit MillenniumPark.org or follow them on social media platforms such as Facebook (@MillenniumParkChicago), Twitter (@Millennium_Park), and Instagram (@Millennium_Park).

Holiday programs in Millennium Park are produced by DCASE with support from Powering Chicago IBEW134/NECA, Millennium Park Foundation, Millennium Garages, and Chicago Transit Authority.

The City encourages residents to report any suspicious activity as part of its "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign by notifying onsite security or calling 9-1-1.
