A new Disaster Recovery Center is set to open in Chicago on Sunday, October 6, at the Fredrick A Douglass Branch Library. This center aims to assist residents affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding that occurred from July 13 to July 16, 2024. Specialists from FEMA, the state of Illinois, and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be present to guide survivors in applying for federal disaster assistance and other recovery options.
The center will operate at 3353 W 13th St., Chicago, IL 60623. The hours are Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Additional centers are expected to open soon in other affected counties. For more information on locations, visit FEMA.gov/DRCLocator. These centers offer language assistance including American Sign Language and translated materials.
"Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, religion, nationality, sex, age, disability, English proficiency or economic status," states the announcement regarding accommodations for those with limited English proficiency or disabilities.
