The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), in collaboration with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) Airports and its concession partners, marked a significant milestone at O'Hare International Airport's Terminal 5. On Tuesday, ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held to inaugurate four new concessions within the newly expanded and modernized terminal. These openings feature local and minority businesses introducing popular dining destinations, luxury retail options, and an innovative grab-and-go concept.

CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee stated, “On behalf of Mayor Brandon Johnson, I am honored to welcome these new concessions to enhance the passenger experience in our beautifully modernized and expanded Terminal 5.” She emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for local business owners from diverse backgrounds as part of efforts to improve O'Hare for passengers while building wealth for Chicagoans.

The new concessions underscore a commitment by the CDA and URW to promote diverse airport concessions. The involvement includes eight minority business owners across four businesses, such as Chick-fil-A and Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins units that are entirely minority-owned and operated. With these additions, Terminal 5 has achieved a 40% participation rate under the Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.

Brian Petrow, Senior Vice President at ORD for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield remarked, “We are grateful for our partnership with the Chicago Department of Aviation.” He noted that Terminal 5's concessions program continues to set industry standards for inclusivity, local brands, and customer experience.

A notable addition is Chick-fil-A near Gate M10 through a joint venture between Marc Brooks of Hyde Park Hospitality in Chicago and Ramona Hall of Phillips Concessions in Florida. Marc Brooks expressed his excitement about bringing this first Chick-fil-A location to a Chicago airport: “As a native of Chicago...we’re also contributing to the economic development of the city with 75 full-time jobs plus 40 temporary construction jobs.”

Protein Bar & Kitchen makes its airport debut near Gate M16 through partnerships with Danon Garrett of D.C. Garrett Group and Miguel Cruz of BT Express Inc., offering breakfast items along with protein shakes daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Jeff Drake, CEO of Protein Bar & Kitchen said, "Protein Bar & Kitchen is a great fit for O’Hare International Airport," highlighting their commitment alongside minority partners.

Additionally, Faisal Poonja from ASAF Inc. and Kirit Patel from K&K Coffee LLC introduced Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins on Terminal 5's lower level operating round-the-clock serving coffee among other items. Kirit Patel shared his enthusiasm stating it was "a dream come true" bringing together two minority-owned businesses at one location.

Dufry along with Ralph Moore from RGMA added Gallery ORD near gates M14-M16 featuring designer sunglasses apparel accessories including pre-owned luxury bags aiming towards sustainable fashion choices available every day until late evening hours.

Ralph Moore appreciated support received saying: “Thank you Commissioner Rhee...for your support making Gallery ORD reality."
