The resignation is effective immediately following a request from Mayor Johnson. In his statement, Mayor Johnson cited "antisemitic, misogynistic, and conspiratorial statements" made by Reverend Mitchell Johnson as the reason for the request.
Mayor Johnson emphasized that such statements are "unacceptable" and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to transforming the public education system in Chicago. He noted that Reverend Mitchell Johnson's continued presence on the board would impede progress in achieving educational goals.
