An East Garfield Park workforce development organization, Revolution Workshop, has been granted $3.71 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance for the rehabilitation of its headquarters. The City Council approved the funding to support the organization's efforts to enhance its facilities at 3410 W. Lake St.

The planned upgrades include new learning spaces, expanded social enterprise facilities, new lobby areas, and improved building systems within the 14,700-square-foot building. The total cost of the project is estimated at $4.9 million.

This initiative will enable Revolution Workshop to launch its Construction Professional Pre-Apprenticeship Program aimed at preparing underemployed individuals for careers in drafting and project management. Additionally, the organization intends to collaborate with partners like Habitat for Humanity to construct and renovate homes for low-income residents.

In 2023, Revolution Workshop trained over 300 individuals at its East Garfield Park location. A second workshop on the Far South Side serves communities in Roseland and Pullman.

The funding is sourced from the Chicago/Central Park TIF district.
