Chicago Fire FC and U.S. Soccer have announced that Christopher Cupps, a defender from the Chicago Fire Academy, has been selected for the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team. The team will participate in a domestic training camp scheduled from November 11 to 17 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Cupps, who is 16 years old, recently joined the U.S. U-17 team under Head Coach Gonzalo Segares for the Ježek Cup held in the Czech Republic. During this tournament, the team competed against Germany, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Cupps played full matches in both the 1-0 loss to Germany and the 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
At his club level, Cupps is part of the Chicago Fire Academy's U-18 squad and has also been a regular player for Chicago Fire II during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. He contributed to a 2-0 win against Michigan Jaguars on November 2 by scoring a goal for his academy team.
In addition to his academy performances, Cupps started in ten out of fifteen matches for Fire II throughout the MLS NEXT Pro regular season, accumulating a total of 975 minutes on the field. His professional debut took place at home on April 10 during a high-scoring match that ended in a 5-5 draw against New York Red Bulls II.
