The Field Museum is set to unveil a new exhibition titled "Cats: Predators to Pets," which will explore the fascinating world of felines. The exhibition, opening on November 29, 2024, will delve into the physiological and cultural significance of cats throughout history.

Originating from the Museum national d'Histoire naturelle in Paris, France, this exhibition will showcase the world's 38 species of wild cats. It features mounted specimens and films that highlight both the historical and contemporary narratives of these animals. Project manager Lauren Boegen remarked, “It shows the Museum’s cats in a different way, moving many out of their normal locations in the museum and places them in a different context.”

The exhibition also examines the relationship between humans and cats from ancient times to today. Curator Bill Parkinson emphasized this aspect by stating, “The most fascinating aspect of this section of the exhibition is the breadth of human experience we try to cover, and how our story overlaps with the story of felines.”

Specimens from various museums are included alongside original research from Field Museum scientist Anderson Feijó. His work has uncovered new species such as pampas cats, contributing to conservation efforts. Feijó noted, “We are still learning about the true diversity of mammals worldwide, including charismatic groups like wild cats.”

Cat enthusiasts can participate by submitting themed images of their pets for a chance to be featured in the exhibition. Monthly submissions will be judged by a panel at the Field Museum.
