The Chicago Department of Aviation has unveiled a new parking garage at O'Hare International Airport's Terminal 5. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing modernization efforts led by Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration.

The newly constructed six-story facility is the first dedicated parking structure for Terminal 5, effectively doubling the available parking capacity. "Investments like this are an important complement to the transformational modernization happening across O’Hare Airport," said Mayor Brandon Johnson. He emphasized that their goal is to provide a world-class travel experience.

Costing $191 million, the garage includes advanced features such as a real-time parking guidance system and 48 electric vehicle charging stations. It connects directly to Terminal 5 via an enclosed pedestrian bridge on its first level and replaces part of Lot D's surface parking while still offering approximately 650 spaces.

CDA Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee stated, "With features like real-time parking guidance and electric vehicle charging stations, this new garage reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability." The design, crafted by SCB, incorporates ornamental metal cladding and curves for architectural appeal.

Construction management was handled by AECOM Hunt Clayco BOWA in collaboration with various contractors, including minority- and women-owned firms. The project aligns with Mayor Johnson’s focus on diversity in airport contracting, surpassing minority business participation goals with a rate of 34.8%.

Currently open are five levels of the garage; Level 6 is slated for opening later this month. Further improvements include re-striping roadways and expanding curbside areas to enhance traffic flow and accessibility.

These developments are part of the broader O’Hare 21 initiative aimed at transforming O'Hare into a modern global hub that enhances traveler comfort and efficiency.
