The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has initiated public outreach to guide future investments in electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure. This effort supports the city's Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce transportation carbon emissions and promote environmental justice. CDOT is working on a framework plan to expand EV access, services, and charging infrastructure equitably.

To gather input, CDOT is launching a survey to assess residents' knowledge about EVs and e-mobility devices like electric bikes and scooters. The survey will also explore mobility needs and how these factors might influence EV charging demand over the next decade.

CDOT's first community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7 at Olive-Harvey College from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with more dates planned. Residents can take the online survey and find additional meeting times at chicago.gov/chicagomoveselectric.

Mayor Brandon Johnson stated, “EVs are one of many sustainable mobility options that help us meet our citywide goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality and health for our residents.” He emphasized the importance of a community-driven approach to ensure investments meet residents' needs.

Chief Sustainability Officer Angela Tovar highlighted the need for equitable adoption of electric vehicles by expanding charging infrastructure. "I am excited to partner with CDOT on its EV and mobility plan that will help us accelerate EV adoption in neighborhoods disproportionately burdened by poor air quality," she said.

Acting Commissioner Tom Carney noted that improving access to EVs is part of creating a greener transportation system. “We look forward to hearing from residents to help us develop a comprehensive EV and mobility framework plan that meets their needs,” he stated.

The EV and E-Mobility Infrastructure Plan will serve as a roadmap for CDOT and other city departments, focusing on accessibility, regulatory processes for public charging deployment, and pilot curbside charging initiatives.

Upcoming meetings include:

- Tuesday, November 7 at Olive-Harvey College from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

- Thursday, November 16 via Zoom from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

- Thursday, November 30 at Malcolm X College from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
