The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced that bridge lifts are scheduled for Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22. These operations will facilitate the annual movement of sailboats and other recreational boats from Lake Michigan to winter storage facilities.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. on both days, a sequence of 27 bridges will be lifted from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to the Ashland Avenue Bridge on the South Branch of the Chicago River. Each bridge lift will last approximately 8-12 minutes. Given the expected high volume of boats, additional time may be needed for all vessels to pass through. Traffic will be halted while each bridge is raised, and drivers can either use alternative routes or wait until the bridge is lowered.

Further details regarding additional bridge lifts this fall will be provided soon.
