The Chicago Hounds have announced the signing of Kian Meadon, a versatile flyhalf and fullback, for the remainder of the 2024 Major League Rugby season. Meadon joins the team after spending two seasons with the Houston Sabercats.

In 2023, Meadon appeared in two games for the Sabercats, starting both and playing a total of 173 minutes. He scored nine points through three conversion kicks and a penalty attempt while completing 16 out of 17 tackle attempts on defense.

During his first year in Major League Rugby in 2022, Meadon was loaned to Rugby Atlanta by the Sabercats. Over that season, he made eight appearances, seven of which were starts, accumulating over 500 minutes of play. His contributions included seven conversion attempts, two penalty kicks, and one try, totaling 25 points.

Originally from Paarl in South Africa's Western Cape, the 23-year-old has advanced through South Africa's national age-grade teams. He played for both the Under-18 and Under-20 teams at World Rugby’s U20 Championship and was also part of the Cell C Sharks’ U18 and U20 programs.

Meadon is expected to enhance the versatility and experience of Chicago's backline as they continue to strengthen their squad before the MLR trade and signing deadline on May 13th.
