The Department of Radiation Oncology at UI Health has been accredited by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) under its APEx–Accreditation Program for Excellence. This program recognizes Radiation Oncology Practices (ROPs) that adhere to standards emphasizing safety and quality through transparent, measurable, evidence- and consensus-based compliance.

APEx-accredited programs have systems, personnel, policies, and procedures demonstrating a commitment to high-quality patient care while respecting patient rights and responding to their needs and concerns. Less than 10% of ROPs in the United States hold this accreditation, making UI Health one of the few in Illinois to achieve such recognition.

The process leading to this accreditation took over two years and involved comprehensive investigation and evaluation of all aspects of patient care. An objective site review was conducted to assess UI Health's quality and safety based on compliance with APEx Standards.
