A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Illinois Secretary of State on November 13, 2024. The request, filed by Chicago City Wire, seeks access to comprehensive records related to business licenses in the state.
The information requested includes a list of all business, LLC, and corporation licenses with specific fields such as owner name, business name, doing business as (DBA), business type, business address, business city, and business status.
As a media organization committed to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chicago City Wire believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as part of this FOIA request under the premise that we are media professionals.
