Chicago, IL – The Chicago Hounds’ Senior Academy has unveiled its 24-man roster for the opening match of the 2024 season against the Midwest Thunderbirds. Head Coach Matt Wagner announced the lineup as fans anticipate Saturday's 4:30 PM kickoff at the Lions for Hope Sports Complex. Tickets are available for $5, with free entry for season ticket holders.

Leading the front row is loosehead prop Timmy Ohlwein, returning after a stint with Major League Rugby (MLR) in 2023 and a championship win with the Chicago Griffins. Will Vakalahi, an experienced hooker who previously played with Old Glory DC and Houston Sabercats, joins him alongside tighthead prop Koby Baker.

The second row features Harris McLeod from the Chicago Lions and Sam Peri, who brings experience from two MLR seasons. Anton Viera starts at blindside flanker, joined by Alex Null and No. 8 Jake Kinneeveauk, a University of Utah prospect selected in the second round of this year’s draft.

Alu Taito and Alex Hernandez have been named as substitute props, while Brian Flamenco will cover hooker duties from his No. 16 shirt. Mason Wells represents Wisconsin’s Green Bay Celtics on the bench.

Jake Reed returns to seek opportunities off the bench following a strong 2023 campaign. Alan Aguilar also earns a spot after success with the Griffins.

Scrumhalf Mathis Demandolx aims to continue his strong form alongside captain Sam Walsh in key roles. Walsh signed with RFC Los Angeles before this season after making his debut at Hong Kong 7s in 2022.

Shane Fata and Jake Hidalgo form an all-Lions midfield. Hidalgo brings experience from Houston Sabercats where he accumulated 14 MLR caps.

First-round pick Peyton Wall looks to make an impact on left wing after showing promise at recent championships. Tom Nevara returns to start on right wing following impressive performances last season.

Luca Milne shifts to fullback bringing veteran experience; he started all three academy games last fall at flyhalf providing strategic options alongside Walsh.

Owen McGuffin will represent Des Moines Rugby Club wearing jersey No. 23 while Nolan Corley completes matchday selections as part of Griffin's squad.

The matchup kicks off Saturday at Lions for Hope Sports Complex with tickets priced at $5 each; season ticket holders enjoy complimentary admission.
