Mike Quigley addresses tribal relations, Social Security reform, and Matt Gaetz's nomination

Mike Quigley, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 5th district, has shared several statements on social media addressing key issues and political figures. Known for his longstanding service since replacing Rahm Emanuel in 2009, Quigley continues to voice his opinions on matters affecting both national policy and political dynamics.

On November 13, 2024, Quigley reflected on Native American Heritage Month, emphasizing the importance of the nation's trust responsibility and relationship with tribes. He stated, "This Native American Heritage Month, I’m reflecting on our country’s trust responsibility and nation-to-nation relationship with tribes. I remain committed to honoring and prioritizing tribal sovereignty in our policymaking."

Later that day, Quigley addressed concerns about Social Security benefits impacted by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). He expressed his support for corrective legislation: "Millions of Americans who paid into Social Security have been stripped of their retirement benefits due to the WEP and the GPO. I voted to pass the Social Security Fairness Act to right this wrong."

In another post from November 13, 2024, Quigley criticized Matt Gaetz's nomination for a significant position, citing loyalty to former President Trump as a primary reason for Gaetz's selection. Quigley remarked that Gaetz would use the role to avoid legal challenges and undermine legal standards: "Matt Gaetz is dangerously unqualified. He is being nominated because he is Trump’s loyal sycophant who cares more about himself than the American people. He will use this position to hide from his own legal troubles, disgrace the rule of law, and do Trump's bidding."
