Jan Schakowsky, a U.S. Congress member representing Illinois' 9th district, has recently shared her views on several issues through social media posts. These tweets cover topics ranging from gun violence to consumer safety and local business contributions.
On November 18, 2024, Schakowsky highlighted the urgency of addressing gun violence in America. She mentioned joining fellow members of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force for a meeting with the Surgeon General. In her tweet, she emphasized the need for immediate action: "We are facing a gun violence epidemic. No one should have to fear losing their life at school, the grocery store, or anywhere in between."
The following day, November 19, 2024, Schakowsky expressed her commitment to consumer safety in another post. She discussed her efforts alongside advocates and parents of backover victims to mandate rearview video systems in all new vehicles. She stressed that consumer safety should take precedence over profits: "Consumer safety must always come before profits. If products are recalled, consumers deserve to know." She also thanked the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for their support.
Later on November 19, Schakowsky praised Lifeway Foods Inc., headquartered in Morton Grove, Illinois. Acknowledging its nearly four decades of contribution to the community and economy as a family-run business founded by immigrants, she stated: "I'm proud of all they continue to accomplish and am grateful for their continued work here in Illinois!"
