The Double Door music club is set to complete the restoration and reopening of the historic Wilson Theater in Uptown, following the approval of $5 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) by the City Council. The project, located at 1050 W. Wilson Ave., has been long-anticipated and carries a total cost of $11.5 million.

Once completed, the venue will accommodate up to 700 people for live performances. In addition to hosting events, the Double Door Liquors 2.5 LLC project will offer a tuition-free after-school music program. This initiative is in collaboration with Uplift High School, The People’s Music School, and Black Ensemble Theatre.

Previously operating for over two decades in Wicker Park before its closure in 2017, the Double Door is revitalizing a building that dates back to 1909 within the Uptown Square Landmark District. Earlier this year, the project received a $125,000 Adopt-A-Landmark grant designated for restoration costs.

The TIF funding is being distributed through the Department of Planning and Development’s Community Development Grant program.
