Treasurer Maria Pappas has announced that Cook County property owners have the option to prepay their 2024 property taxes, which are due in 2025. This initiative allows taxpayers to request an early copy of their First Installment tax bill. Those who register can receive a printed version by mail, with the deadline for prepayment set for December 31.

"Many Chicago-area snowbirds spend winters in Florida, Arizona and other warmer climates," Pappas stated. "The prepay option lets you enjoy your time away without worrying about returning home in time to pay your tax bill by the due date."

The Treasurer’s Office plans to mail prepayment bills and post PDF copies of the First Installment 2024 tax bills online on Monday, December 16.

Property owners have four options for early payment:

1. Online at cookcountytreasurer.com using a bank account or credit card.

2. By mail with an original early payment tax bill or a downloaded PDF from cookcountytreasurer.com sent to Cook County Treasurer, P.O. Box 805436, Chicago IL 60680-4155.

3. At any Chase Bank location in Illinois.

4. In person at the Treasurer’s Office located in Room 112 of the County Building at 118 N. Clark St., Chicago.

The First Installment bill is estimated at 55% of the previous year’s total tax amount. The due date for the First Installment of the 2024 Tax Year is Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
