Chicago Fire FC has announced the signing of 15-year-old Robert Turdean to a record-breaking Homegrown Player contract. The deal, which is also one of the largest for a Homegrown Player in Major League Soccer (MLS) history, will last through the 2028 season, with options for extension until 2030. Specific terms were not disclosed due to club and MLS policy.

At just over 15 years old, Turdean becomes the youngest field player ever signed by Chicago Fire FC and ranks as the tenth youngest in MLS history. "We’re very pleased to sign Robert to a Club-record contract for a Homegrown Player," stated Gregg Berhalter, Director of Football and Head Coach at Chicago Fire FC. He highlighted Turdean's decision to join the Fire over European clubs as indicative of the positive environment being fostered at the club.

Turdean expressed his enthusiasm about joining the professional ranks: “Signing my first professional contract with the Fire is a dream come true, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.” He thanked those who supported him and looked forward to contributing to his team’s success.

Gary Lewis, Technical Director of Chicago Fire Academy, praised Turdean's adaptability and creativity on the field. “Each time we moved him up a level in the Academy, he showed a remarkable ability to adapt quickly,” said Lewis.

Since joining Chicago Fire Academy in 2021 at age 11, Turdean has achieved multiple accolades. He played an instrumental role in securing victory during the 2024 U-15 MLS NEXT Cup Championship against LA Galaxy Academy. Internationally, he has represented the U.S. U-15 Men’s Youth National Team three times.

The signing marks Turdean as Chicago Fire's 26th Homegrown Player and underscores their commitment to developing local talent.
