Jan Schakowsky, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 9th district, recently shared her views on various political issues through a series of tweets. Schakowsky has been an active voice in Congress since replacing Sidney R. Yates in 1999 and has previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives and the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

On January 22, 2025, Schakowsky expressed her opposition to former President Donald Trump's executive orders by standing with US Progressives. She criticized Trump for prioritizing "hate and the agendas of big corporations" over improving Americans' lives and lowering costs. "Today, I stood with @USProgressives in opposition to Donald Trump's horrendous and harmful series of executive orders," she tweeted.

Later that day, Schakowsky commented on Trump's decision to pardon individuals involved in violent acts against police officers during riots. She emphasized that Americans elected Trump with the expectation of reduced prices but instead witnessed him supporting actions contrary to public safety interests. "Americans elected President Trump because they wanted him to lower prices," she stated.

On January 23, 2025, Schakowsky highlighted her support for repealing the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 alongside colleagues Ilhan Omar and Mazie Hirono. As a first-generation American herself, she stressed that immigrants contribute positively to society as neighbors and family members, underscoring diversity as America's strength. "As a first-generation American, I know that immigrants aren't the enemy," she affirmed.
