Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez, who has been serving Illinois’ 3rd district since 2023, expressed her thoughts on various issues through a series of tweets on January 30, 2025. Her posts ranged from celebrating cultural events to commenting on controversial political topics.
In her first tweet of the day, Ramirez extended warm wishes for the Lunar New Year to her constituents in Illinois' 3rd district. She wrote, "Happy Lunar New Year for all who celebrate in #IL03! May you welcome the new year safely and happily with your loved ones." This message highlights her engagement with diverse cultural celebrations within her community.
Later that day, Ramirez addressed the issue of Guantanamo Bay in two consecutive tweets. She criticized its history and current status by stating, "Guantanamo hosted some of our most shameful acts of violence, dehumanization, and humiliation. It should be closed and the land returned to Cuba. Not repurposed. Not expanded. And definitely not turned into a detention camp for immigrants." In a follow-up post she further criticized past actions associated with Guantanamo Bay under former President Donald Trump’s administration: "Like the history of torture and indefinite detention at Guantanamo, this Executive Order is what happens when one group of people are willing to deny the humanity of another. Shame on Trump!"
