FOIA Request to Cook County Clerk Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chicago City Wire have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Cook County Clerk Election Division.
The request, sent on February 5, 2025, seeks a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate's first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; their party affiliation; and their contact information including address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
