Jan Schakowsky, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 9th District, has expressed her concerns over recent policy actions by former President Donald Trump through a series of tweets. On February 19, 2025, Schakowsky criticized Trump's apparent inconsistency regarding Medicaid funding. The following day, on February 20, 2025, Schakowsky addressed Trump's decision to suspend funding for resettlement agencies, emphasizing its detrimental impact on families in her district. She highlighted the efforts of local organizations such as Refugee One: "Trump's order to suspend funding for resettlement agencies directly harms families in the 9th District. @Refugee_One works tirelessly to help individuals who have fled violence and war become independent and self-supporting members of our community."

Later that day, Schakowsky tweeted about environmental concerns related to Trump's directives involving the Army Corps and infrastructure projects like the Line 5 pipeline. She raised alarms about potential risks to Lake Michigan's ecosystem: "Trump is directing the Army Corps to greenlight projects like the Line 5 pipeline, allowing them to skip the permitting process despite the critical and proven danger it poses to Lake Michigan." She accused Trump of prioritizing corporate interests over environmental safety: "Trump would rather enrich Big Oil execs than protect our clean water source."
