Chicago Fire FC and D.C. United ended their home opener with a 2-2 draw at Soldier Field on March 1, 2025. The match marked the first point for Chicago Fire FC in the new season. Hugo Cuypers scored twice, with Philip Zinckernagel and Jack Elliott providing assists during their home debuts.

The game started with D.C. United taking an early lead when Gabriel Pirani assisted Benteke for a goal just four minutes in. Chicago responded in the 30th minute when Zinckernagel's corner was deflected by Elliott to Cuypers, who equalized.

Cuypers scored again in the 71st minute after another corner from Zinckernagel, which bounced off a defender before reaching him. However, D.C. United secured a draw with Jacob Murrell's bicycle kick goal in stoppage time.

Chicago will next face FC Dallas on March 8 at Toyota Stadium as part of a three-game road trip.

The match saw several players making their Major League Soccer debuts: Sam Williams, Sam Rogers, and Harold Osorio for Chicago Fire FC. Omar González also made his first appearance for the team late in the game.

The attendance at Soldier Field was reported to be 20,372 spectators despite it being the coldest home opener recorded for Chicago Fire FC.
