As part of Chicago City Wire's new "Illinois DOGE" series, we will profile Illinois "non-profit" organizations that receive all or an overwhelming majority of their funding from government/taxpayers to provide services the state also provides.
See our first installment profile of Chicago's Indo-American Center on Chicago City Wire and our second installment on the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on our sister site, Prairie State Wire.

TMH Mancave is a relatively new non-profit that promises to provide "mental health" services to black men on Chicago's South Side.
Out of the state's "Build Illinois Bond Fund," Illinois taxpayers borrowed $750,000-- $250,000 in each of the last three years-- to give to TMH Mancave for "capital improvements."
The organization's Instagram page advertises monthly "wellness group" meetings at its 800-square foot office on the second floor of a walk-up building on 47th Street in Chicago's Grand Boulevard neighborhood, just west of Kenwood.
Founder Tytannie M. Harris, 43, operates her "psychotherapy" consulting business, TMH Behavioral Services, P.C., out of the same office space.
TMH Behavioral Services is "a mental health private practice/behavioral health clinic that specializes in individual and family therapy, senior services and parenting support."
Harris, who describes herself as a "Psychotherapist, Certified Balanced Living Coach, Author and Inspirational Speaker," charges $350 per hour for consultations, according to her web site.
THM Mancave applied for and received tax-exempt status from the IRS on March 24, 2020. The organization's IRS filings in 2021, 2022 and 2023 all reported less than $50,000 in annual receipts.
"Decolonizing therapy"
Harris says TMH Mancave is "a nonprofit created to bring awareness and eliminate the stigma associated with the mental health needs black men require."
"Before I created TMH MANCAVE I was already working with young boys and men within my practice," Harris said. "Society hasn’t made it safe for black men to express themselves in healthy ways. Misdiagnoses, lack of cultural competency, and inadequate treatment also contribute to the barriers black men face when seeking services.
Harris and "relationship expert" Latosha Davis, who is "vice president" of TMH Behavioral Services, co-host a podcast, "Raw with a Purpose" that they describe as "a journey of decolonizing therapy" where they "talk about black mental health, relationships, parenting, entrepreneurship and more."
TMH Behavioral Services is celebrating its 10th Anniversary on April 19, hosting a $100 per ticket fundraiser at the Little Black Pearl Art & Design Academy in Kenwood. Proceeds from the event will go to THM Mancave, "allowing us to continue to hold brave spaces for black boys and men to connect, feel empowered and heal as a community."
According to Linkedin, Harris holds a bachelor's degree in social work from Northeastern University and a master's degree in social work from Loyola University of Chicago. She previously worked as a "social work intern" for Chicago Public Schools and as a case manager for the Heartland Alliance non-profit.
She graduated from Maine East High School in Park Ridge and played basketball for Kennedy-King Community College.
