Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez, currently serving Illinois’ 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has been vocal on social media regarding recent layoffs and budget proposals affecting federal employees and working families. She replaced Marie Newman in 2023 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2018 to 2022.
On March 5, 2025, Ramirez addressed concerns about the impact of layoffs on veterans within the federal workforce. She stated, "30% of the federal workforce are veterans. When Trump and Musk lay off thousands of employees from the VA and other federal agencies, they’re creating the largest mass veteran layoff in history."
In a subsequent tweet posted on the same day, she expressed her stance on budgetary decisions that could negatively impact working families. She wrote, "I will not betray working families by supporting a budget that harms working families to make the rich richer."
Ramirez also highlighted her concerns about funding for tax cuts benefiting wealthy individuals at the expense of essential services. She tweeted, "The part they're not saying out loud is they are going to pay for their tax cuts for the wealthy with your Medicaid and SNAP."
