FOIA Request to Illinois Arts Council Regarding State Agency Contracts with Vendors on March 24, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in government affairs, Chicago City Wire has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Arts Council. The request seeks detailed documentation and information about contracts executed or modified between the state agency and its vendors during January of the 2023 fiscal year.
Specifically, we are requesting records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. This information is crucial for ensuring that public institutions are held accountable for their contractual obligations and for providing transparency to the public.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news that holds governmental bodies accountable. We believe access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. As such, we have requested a fee waiver in line with our position as members of the media.
Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to investigating state and federal governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. Our efforts aim to shed light on government actions and inform the American electorate.
