April is Occupational Therapy Month, a time to acknowledge the vital role played by Occupational Therapists (OTs) in enhancing the lives of individuals through increased independence and improved quality of life. Boyd Healthcare Services aims to celebrate this month by highlighting three exemplary team members: Carley Pyatt, Jana Rimbey, and Dawn Ricklefs, who have made a significant impact in their respective areas.
Carley Pyatt was drawn to Occupational Therapy from an early age. She mentioned, "I always knew I had an interest in the movements of hands and children with developmental delays." As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) since April 2021, she focuses on geriatric settings, skilled nursing, and hospital care. Outside of her profession, Carley enjoys outdoor activities with her dogs and spending quality time with her family.
For Jana Rimbey, a personal connection inspired her career choice. "I have a cousin who is legally blind, and I was able to see firsthand how Occupational Therapy helped him become more independent and functional," she explains. With 23 years in the field, primarily in school-based OT, Jana has also gained experience in geriatrics. In her leisure time, Jana finds joy in attending her children's sports events and being with family and friends.
Dawn Ricklefs decided on her path at a high school career fair. Reflecting on her experience, she stated, "I really liked how they helped people and the tools they used to improve people's lives." With 28 years of experience in the domain, her specialties include vestibular and balance therapy, acute care, and skilled therapy. Away from work, Dawn enjoys activities such as hiking, biking, and camping.
Each of these therapists shared their advice for future OTs. Carley emphasizes the importance of "developing a strong rapport" with patients. Jana celebrates the diversity within the field, urging newcomers to "explore and enjoy working with different people." Dawn reminds future therapists to embrace change and continuous learning.
Boyd Healthcare Services takes pride in its dedicated team, acknowledging the passion and commitment of Carley, Jana, and Dawn. Their work is a testament to the crucial role Occupational Therapy plays in enhancing individuals' abilities to perform meaningful daily activities, whether in schools, hospitals, or other healthcare settings.
