Mike Quigley, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 5th district, recently shared his concerns and intentions on environmental and ethical issues via social media posts. Quigley, who succeeded Rahm Emanuel in Congress in 2009 and has served since, utilized the platform to voice his steadfast dedication to environmental protection, legal accountability, and health-related scientific research.
In a tweet posted on April 11, 2025, Quigley criticized the Trump Administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for dismantling environmental regulations, which he asserts poses a threat to public health. "Trump’s EPA is shredding dozens of environmental rules and endangering millions of Americans," he stated. As a committed member of the Sierra Club and a Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), Quigley vowed to tirelessly pursue efforts to ensure clean air and water for communities.
In a subsequent tweet later that day, Quigley called for immediate action from the Trump administration concerning allegations of corruption involving Elon Musk. He was resolute in his demand for Musk's removal by May 30, highlighting his insistence on adherence to the law. "Elon Musk’s corruption should have never gone this far—I’m calling on the Trump administration to follow the law and remove him by May 30th," Quigley declared.
Quigley also reflected on a personal issue, expressing gratitude towards scientific efforts in combating Parkinson's disease. In a tweet on World Parkinson's Day, dated April 11, 2025, he shared his personal connection to the disease and praised the work of organizations such as the Michael J. Fox Foundation. "As someone who has been personally touched by Parkinson's disease, I know how difficult the diagnosis is for patients and their families," he conveyed, acknowledging the ongoing contributions of researchers and scientists dedicated to finding a cure.
Quigley, born in Indianapolis in 1958 and currently residing in Chicago, is an alumnus of Roosevelt University, having graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Loyola University in Chicago in 1989. Prior to his Congressional service, he was a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners from 1998 to 2009.
