Boyd Memorial Hospital's Senior Life Solutions is organizing a walk in Carrollton, Illinois, to mark Mental Health Awareness Month. The event will take place at the Carrollton Public Library Lawn on Tuesday, May 20th at 11 a.m.
Mental Health America (MHA) initiated Mental Health Month in 1949 to educate the public about mental health issues. Each year, various organizations collaborate to reduce stigma, improve access to care, and raise awareness of mental health progress.
"Mental Health Awareness Month is such a great opportunity to remind people that their mental health matters," said Becky Hoaglin, MSN, RN, Program Director of Senior Life Solutions. "Mental health is no different than physical health, and through education and starting conversations, we are helping to break down the stigma."
The event aims to provide guests with an opportunity to learn more about mental health and connect with others in the community.
Senior Life Solutions at Boyd Memorial Hospital offers outpatient programs for older adults dealing with depression or anxiety related to aging or chronic diagnoses. The program encourages those experiencing mental health declines to seek help either through their services or other available resources.
