FOIA Request to Cook County Treasurer Regarding Property Tax Records 2024 - Present on May 12, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, Chicago City Wire has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Cook County Treasurer. We are seeking access to property tax records for the years 2024 and any available data for 2025. Specifically, we have requested information that includes Parcel ID, Year, Tax Value, and Assessed Value for properties within the county.

This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the data in electronic format. Our role as media professionals involves gathering and reporting news to the public, which necessitates access to public records. This access is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency.

We are also seeking a fee waiver for this request due to our status as members of the media. Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
